Location
Tsumeb is located at 19°15' southern latitude and 17°42' eastern longitude, and lies 1 310 metres above mean sea level. Windhoek, Namibia's capital city, is 380 km by air and 435 km by tarred road.

Climate
Tsumeb has a sub tropical climate, with very hot summers and mild winters. The mean maximum temperature lies at 29,7° C, while the mean minimum temperature is 14,4° C. Occasional thunderstorms occur during the summer rainfall months, October to March. The average rainfall is 555 mm per annum.

Population
Tsumbe is the Capital of the Oshikoto Region, located in northern Namibia, which part of the country has the highest population density. The total population of the Oshikoto Region is about 128 745, of which some 30 000 are unempoyed.

There are an estimated 22 500 people living in Tsumeb and its district, of which 12 300 are male and 10 200 are femal. Some 16 000 people live in the town itself.

Languages
Tsumeb and the Oshikoto Region have a cosmopolitain community. Although the official language is English, a great number of people in the area speak Oshiwambo, Otjiherero, Damara-Nama, Africaans, Portugese and German.
